This website brings together research, reflection, and community perspectives on writing centers and writing programs in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Drawing on data from the MENA Writing Center Census, as well as interviews and guest contributions from practitioners across the region, the site aims to document and better understand the diverse ways writing support is conceptualized and practiced. By centering both empirical data and lived experience, this project highlights the linguistic, cultural, and institutional contexts that shape writing centers and programs in the MENA region.

Amy Hodges

Dr. Amy Hodges is an assistant professor of English at the University of Texas at Arlington, USA. She researches international technical and professional writing, AI ethics, and writing centers. Prior to her appointment at UTA, she taught technical and first-year writing in Qatar. She served as the president of the Middle East North Africa Writing Centers Alliance from 2018-2020, and as past president from 2020-2022.

Inas Mahfouz

Dr. Inas Mahfouz is an associate professor at the American University of Kuwait (AUK) where she served as the Writing Program Coordinator in 2017-2019. She currently serves as the Chair of English Department. Her research interests focus on second language writing, learner corpora and English as a Medium of Instruction.
